DI Choice Underwriting

Disability income is underwritten in three ways:

  • Occupational underwriting: Based on what clients do for a living. Depending on their job and the risk that it may entail, companies assign an occupation class. Mutual of Omaha offers seven classes that cover many of the occupations other carriers won’t insure
  • Financial underwriting: Determines what a client’s income is in order to provide a maximum monthly benefit to replace a sufficient amount of income to maintain lifestyle, but provide an incentive to return back to work (ex. 60 percent of pre-tax income)
  • Health or Medical underwriting: Determine the client’s health history. Even if your client may have conditions you may not think are insurable, we may be able to still offer them coverage with exclusion riders, impairment ratings or limit benefits.
